CMEE is reimagining its backyard into a dynamic outdoor exhibition and play space unlike anything else on Long Island. We're working with an incredible team—CMEE, LaGuardia Design Group, Studio Ludo, and Hampton Yards—to create a space where kids and families can climb, swing, explore, and connect with nature with thoughtfully designed structures from Berliner Seilfabrik, WholeTrees and seating elements from Durbanis that blend beautifully with the natural environment.
The design embraces the site's natural topography, with play surfaces that flow organically across the landscape. Locally sourced boulders, mature shade trees, and sculptural climbing elements help define a variety of age-appropriate zones, each offering a distinct type of engagement. Carefully planned trails and ramps ensure access and exploration for all visitors.
LGA worked to preserve as many existing trees as possible and focused on restoring disturbed areas with native plant species, resulting in a play area that blends with the surrounding environment. Once it's finished, CMEE’s new backyard will be a must-visit destination for families on the East End, full of movement, imagination, and a deep connection to nature.
